Utah – This past season the NASTAR National Championships was held at
Park City Mountain Resort and was recognized by SKI RACING as the largest
competitive ski race held in sport’s history. Hosted by Olympians Tommy
Moe, AJ Kitt, Phil Mahre, Chad Fleischer and Park City Mountain Resort’s
sports ambassador, Erik Schlopy, over 900 racers competed for national
titles with over 2,300 ski enthusiasts in attendance.
NASTAR is the acronym for the NAtional STAndard Race and is the largest
public recreational grassroots ski race program in the world. The National
Standard is determined each year by a member of the U.S. Ski Team. NASTAR
provides a fun, competitive and easily accessible racing program that,
through the development of a handicap system, allows racers of all ages
and abilities a means to compare themselves against their friends, family
members and the U.S. Ski Team regardless of when and where they race.
The 2003 NASTAR National Championships returns to Park City Mountain Resort,
details are as follows:
WHAT: The culminating event of the NASTAR season, the National Championships
bring together participants of all ages and abilities from across the
country.
WHERE: The 2003 NASTAR National Championships will be held at Park City
Mountain Resort in Park City, Utah.
WHEN: March 27 – March 30, 2003
WHO: The top three participants in each age and gender category will qualify
and be invited to compete for National Titles and enjoy three days of
competitive ski racing. Joining them will be former and current t U.S.
Ski Team members and Olympians who will be on hand in support of recreational
ski racing in the United States.
Created by SKI Magazine and now in its 33rd year, NASTAR is the world’s
largest recreational ski program, with more than 4.5 million participants
since its inception in 1968. Approximately 100 resorts nationwide conducted
NASTAR through the winter months. Sponsors of NASTAR include the U.S.
Ski Team, SKI Magazine, Chevy Trucks, Yahoo! Sports and American Airlines.

Park City Mountain
Resort is located just 37 miles from the Salt Lake International Airport
and was the snowboarding and giant slalom skiing venue for the 2002 Olympic
Winter Games.
