Beaver Creek, Colo. March 27, 2001--More than 600 skiers from across the nation are descending on the Vail Valley for the Charles Schwab Nastar National Championships Saturday and Sunday at Beaver Creek.

Olympic champion Picabo Street (Park City, UT), Nastar's national pace-setter, will be joined by former Olympic gold medalist Tommy Moe, '93 Worlds bronze medalist AJ Kitt and two-time Olympian Chad Fleischer (Vail, CO) at the championships. The four Olympians will serve as pace-setters for the two days of racing.

"Nastar introduced me to competitive ski racing," Street said. "We could see future members of the U.S. Ski Team competing at Beaver Creek."

Racers, who qualified through season-long rankings at participating resorts or through a regional championship, will have two runs each day. Final rankings will be determined by the average of adding together the better time each day.

Nastar (the National Standard Race) is the world's largest recreational ski program with about 80,000 participants annually at nearly 100 resorts; there have been 4.5 million participants since 1968.
